Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation is the examination and treatment of adult and pediatric patients with visual dysfunction related to conditions like traumatic brain injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, or brain tumor.
Neuro-visual problems can manifest as reading difficulties, visual inattention, eyestrain, double vision, visual memory problems, visually related anxiety, balance and postural difficulties, side vision loss, sensitivity to bright light, and other related symptoms or signs.
Dr. Rummel is one of the few eye doctors in the U.S.A. who is Clinical Skills Certified (Level III) in Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation, and Consultant and/or Director of Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation at leading area Rehabilitation Hospitals.
"I had suffered massive strokes and could no longer function with day-to-day activities. My vision loss had been so severe, I was not able to see a plate to eat meals or even take steps without walking into walls. Other physicians had told me that there was not anything they could do that would improve my condition. I just want to take this time to reassure any person, who finds him or herself in my position, not to doubt the care that can be given by Dr. Rummel. Do not be skeptical; treatment is available, as I am living proof that De. Rummel can help. Before my neuro-optometric rehabilitation I could not even take care of myself. Currently, I am now able to move around without bumping into things and I now have vision where I can watch television again. Without the care of Dr. Rummel, I would not have made it to this point."
"If my eyes could speak — they would shout!! 'Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!' You restored what I began to fear could not happen; the productive and happy lifestyle I was accustomed to, after the violent near-fatal automobile accident I was involved in. The double images I saw were corrected by you. I am glad I saw you for neuro-optometric rehabilitation."
"The Side Vision Awareness Glasses™ bring the objects on the left into my vision. Most noteworthy has been spotting hanging traffic lights installed on the left hand side of the street, bringing them into full view. Walking in rural or urban areas I am more aware of my surroundings and hence can avoid bumping or tripping. On the lighter side when sitting in the passenger seat of the car, I am able to see the speedometer and monitor my husbandís speed."
"I had surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. The surgery was successful, but, post surgical problems did occur. The most difficult problem is one of double vision. I am sincerely grateful that you were available to treat this difficult problem. Neuro-optometric rehabilitation has made a world of difference with this problem. Without treatment, I would be severely restricted in my daily life. I have been provided me a substantial degree of normalcy."
"Saying thank you doesnít seem to be enough. A year ago after my accident occurred I would not even be able to write you a thank you letter. I truly could not remember things. You offered me a solution. I came in for neuro-optometric rehabilitation. I would get frustrated when I couldnít read, write, comprehend simple tasks that we all take for granted until you experience brain injury. Now I can function normally."
"The use of Side Vision Awareness Glasses™ has been very helpful when shopping, helping me to avoid items left by clerks on the floor. They also help me maneuver through obstacle courses of items such as carts or floor displays. Also while walking in the neighborhood, I can watch for cars before crossing the street."
